ABOUT PAULESI

Pan African University for Life and Earth Sciences Institute (including Health and Agriculture), PAULESI is located in the premier University of Nigeria, University of Ibadan. Pan African University for Life and Earth Sciences Institute (including Health and Agriculture) PAULESI is an institute designed to run only postgraduate programmes. All the students are fully sponsored by the African Union Commission and the students are admitted from all the member states of the African Union

The Pan African University (PAU) is a Continental initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It is the culmination of the decision of the Assembly of Heads of State and Governments of the African Union to create the Pan African University (EX.CL/579 (XVII) in 2009. The University has five Institutes located in the five sub regions of Africa. Nigeria won on competitive bidding to host the Institute of Life and Earth Sciences for West Africa at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

The aim of Pan African University is to develop institutions of excellence in science, technology, innovation, social sciences and governance, which would constitute the bedrock for an Africa pool of higher education and research.

Pan African University Life and Earth Sciences Institute (including Health and Agriculture) PAULESI offers sixteen programmes with options. These programmes are offered at the Masters and Ph.D. levels only.

PAULESI currently offers the following programmes:

Professor Esther Titilayo Akinlabi,
Director of PAULESI

Professor Esther Titilayo Akinlabi is a Full Professor currently serving as the Director of the Pan African University for Life and Earth Sciences Institute (PAULESI), Ibadan, Nigeria. The Pan African University (PAU) is a continental initiative of the African Union Commission, Addis Ababa to revitalize Higher Education and Research in Africa. PAULESI represents the West African Hub of the Pan African University hosted by the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Prior to joining PAULESI, Prof Akinlabi had a decade of meritorious service at the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, University of Johannesburg (UJ), South Africa. During her period of service at UJ, she had the privilege to serve as the Head of Department of the Department of Mechanical Engineering Science and as the Vice Dean for Teaching and Learning of the Faculty. Her research interest is in the field of modern and advanced manufacturing processes. She is a rated National Research Foundation (NRF) researcher in South Africa and has demonstrated excellence in all fields of endeavors.

Her leadership, mentorship and research experience is enviable as she guides her team of postgraduate students through the research journey. She is involved in the mentorship scheme of the African Academy of Science. Prof Akinlabi is a recipient of several local and international research grant awards and she has received many awards of recognition to her credit. Prof Akinlabi is an alumnus of the Prestigious South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS). She is a registered member of many professional bodies, which include; the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering Profession in Nigeria (COREN), South African Institution of Mechanical Engineers (SAIMechE), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), USA. She has filed two patents, edited four books, published seven books and authored/co-authored over 500 peer reviewed publications. She is happily married to Dr. Stephen Akinlabi and blessed with two children (Akinkunmi and Stephanie).
